Toolbox For Building Coding Rules in MusicMaster

by Marianne Burkett - I love Genius Days. Why? Even after working at MusicMaster for years and years, I always walk away with some new tidbit of information to help programming my music and content even easier. Typically, when I build rules – I use the Library analysis feature for the entire active library for specific coding, to decide on what kind of separation or quotas I will use in the rules. At the last Genius Day I attended, our founder – Joe Knapp, showed me something I have never used before: Coding Turnovers!

It's All About the Upgrades

by Drew Bennett - Let's talk about that green thing under your office desk. I’m not talking about last month's lunch that you inadvertently left next to the trash bin (and forgot to throw out.) I’m talking about the little green license key you have plugged into the back of your laptop or PC at the office. (Oh, it's red, you say, in a server room far, far away? This blog article is still for you.

Curing the Ugly Report Blues

by Dave Tyler - If you are one of those programmers who likes a tangible, hard copy of your log in your hands or maybe you need to print out all of the songs in a category for research or an upcoming special, MusicMaster has the tools to make it look exactly how you want it to look. Let’s take this printed list of George Thorogood songs for example. Sure it lists the songs but there are a couple of things missing. First off where are the Destroyers, George’s backup band? And who wants just one Bourbon? I want the Scotch and Beer too! The problem is my log is too crowded to get all of this info in. So let’s pretty this thing up first by clicking our printer icon then the edit button when the Custom Library Reports box opens.

Quick Tip: Calculate Time Between Elements

Calculating the time between elements in the Editor is as simple as a couple of clicks. In the grid, click on the first element. Hold the CTRL key and click on the second element. A box will pop up giving you the clock and running time between the elements you selected. Be sure to do this in the grid. This feature doesn't work from the pointer column.

MusicMaster Genius Day at College Broadcasters' Convention

Over 450 student broadcasters and college radio leaders gathered in the "City of Brotherly Love" to attend the National Student Electronic Media Convention (NSEMC), hosted by College Broadcasters, Inc. Participants enjoyed several pre-convention workshops, including a MusicMaster Genius Day and a LPFM brainstorming session.

The NSEMC offers attendees many amazing learning opportunities, plus creative social interaction. One of the most popular gatherings is the "Swag Swap Social". Students are encouraged to bring unique promotional materials and ideas to trade with new friends. Along with the party-goers, MusicMaster is always excited to see the many new and clever promotional tchotchkes college broadcasters design to market their brands.

While each MusicMaster Genius Day is unique, The CBI/NSEMC gathering brought together diverse bright minds with fresh concepts and suggestions. MM Learning and Training Director Drew Bennett guided the conversation, which featured a presentation from Vince Benedetto, President/CEO of Bold Gold Media. Vince shared how the trend line for music consumption continues to grow. He also spoke of the opportunities this presents for music broadcasters willing to find their space, and take advantage of these possibilities.

Thank you CBI Genius Day students for sharing your time, questions, and ideas. You're the reason MusicMaster continues to be the fastest growing scheduling software worldwide.

MusicMaster CEO Heading to the Altar

We are pleased to announce that MusicMaster Founder and CEO Joe Knapp and Director of Marketing Melanie Ross will be tying the knot next Spring. Melanie and Joe first met four years ago during the NAB Show in Vegas. Melanie had joined the group for dinner and the pair began talking. Though they lived in separate states, the conversation continued until Joe invited Melanie to attend the World Wide Radio Summitt in Hollywood with him - their first date! Their second date was in an ER. During a romantic walk along the beach, Joe tripped and sprained his ankle. Melanie sat with him at the clinic all night. When they got back to the hotel, Joe had a floral display waiting for her. The relationship blossomed from there.

Melanie grew up in Newport Beach, CA and later moved to Dallas, TX. There, she raised two daughters with her husband Scott, a record executive with MGM Records. Sadly, Melanie lost her husband to pancreatic cancer in 2010. Melanie says, "I never thought I could fall in love like this again and find that perfect person. Now, Chapter Two has begun and I couldn't imagine doing it without Joe."

In 2013, Melanie joined the MusicMaster family as Director of Marketing, bringing with her a background in sales management and a passion for people. Joe says, "Her uncanny ability to turn perfect strangers into lifelong friends still baffles me. She's also tough and independent -- and she refuses to lose -- and that's the one thing we both have in common!" Of her time at MusicMaster, Melanie has this to say: "I have never worked with so many people that truly care. MusicMaster is about family and a quality of life."

Whether at home or at work, Joe reports: "Melanie makes me smile. She's a constant reminder that life is beautiful, so we shouldn't waste one precious second of it." Melanie tells us, "I love that Joe is just a regular old Joe - very down to earth. I love his personality and his sense of humor, and even though we are total opposites, we complement each other. We both have that "get it done" attitude. I feel that we can do anything this life hands us." When asked why Melanie is "The One" Joe said he could express it best through a song (we aren't surprised). Click the video below to hear his choice: "Perfect Two" by Auburn.

Congratulations Melanie and Joe!
A Visit with Milwaukee's WKTI

WKTI's J Pat Miller took time away from the many promotions and events going on at Scripps - Milwaukee, Wisconsin to spend some time with MusicMaster's Paul Ziino on October 21st. J Pat is filling in as Program Director while KTI hunts for their next programming pro. (Interested in a new opportunity? Click here for the job posting.)

As interim PD, J Pat had some pretty in-depth questions for Paul. They reviewed Scheduling Session Filters, Special Sets, scheduling imaging based on tempo, Library Query clock elements, Format Scheduler, unique artist separations, and loads more. They capped it all off with a delicious lunch of chicken enchiladas and tilapia tacos at Cafe Corazon in Milwaukee's River West neighborhood.

Congrats to these users! If you'd like to share a milestone, please contact us here.

Keith Solis - Music Director - KRNB-FM, Dallas, TX

Keith shares: "I've been using MusicMaster since July 2015 when I became the Music Director of KRNB. To be honest, I was a little nervous since it had been a while since I last used music scheduling software, but MusicMaster is very user friendly. My MusicMaster rep Jesus (who has the perfect name because I've screamed it a thousand times!!) is even friendlier and always available when I have a question or several!! When I used 'Brand X' software, music scheduling was a major chore and something that I didn't look forward to doing. But with MusicMaster, it's easy, painless and actually fun as I get a preview of what KRNB will present to the best listeners in Dallas/Ft. Worth…and it's all thanks to MusicMaster!”
